Get Healthy at the MCH Wellness Center
August 11, 2010
“My doctor told me I needed to get my sugar under control and that exercise could help,” said Marilyn.
According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for American, adults need at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of aerobic activity each week and muscle-strengthening activates on two or more days. Exercising can decrease your risk of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, some cancers, osteoporosis, depression, and obesity.
For the past 28 years, Marilyn worked as a deputy clerk at the Madison County Municipal Court. She retired last October and after spending the winter reading books, she decided it was time for some activity. Marilyn and her husband Don joined the Wellness Center in February
“Exercising at the Wellness Center gets me out of the house,” said Marilyn, “I visit with people and we encourage each other.”
Visiting the Wellness Center every day Monday through Friday, Marilyn walks for 30 minutes on the treadmill, and uses the recumbent bike and abdominal weight machine. She has already lost 24 pounds, and her physician has said that her sugar level is now under control.
“I’m flabbergasted that more people don’t use the Wellness Center,” said Marilyn. “It has everything you want. I feel much better since I started exercising and now feel I can keep up with my six grandchildren.”
The MCH Wellness Center is open to the public for anyone age 18 and over. It is open Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm. Call 740-845-7275 for more information on membership fees or to schedule a visit.
