Evidence-based program assists patients through first days of withdrawal

By Mitchell Spahn, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Madison Health

Ohio’s opiate epidemic is a crisis of unparalleled proportions with devastating consequences. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 90 Americans die each day from an opioid overdose. Drug overdoses are the leading cause of death in Americans under the age of 50, and per capita, Ohio leads the nation in drug overdose deaths.

We at Madison Health recognize this crisis and in an effort to help have recently partnered with Tritanium Solutions, a premier provider of healthcare options. Together, we are proud to offer a medically supervised inpatient withdrawal management service known as “BreakThru.” This service assists patients as they take the first step in recovery from substance abuse. Medical withdrawal management is offered in a safe, comfortable and confidential hospital environment while preserving patient dignity. The BreakThru program serves patients in the initial stages of withdrawal from alcohol and/or drugs. This program is focused on quality and patient safety, while continuing to provide excellent patient care. Madison Health will guide, manage and problem-solve to achieve superior outcomes and create long-term value for our patients.

This unique program allows our staff to manage symptoms ranging from anxiety and pain, to more serious and sometimes life-threatening conditions. Many of these patients have additional medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and COPD. Supportive medications are given throughout the withdrawal period, ensuring safe and effective medical outcomes.

A crucial part of our program will include Continuum of Care Managers, who will assist patients in coordinating care and support upon their release from the inpatient program. A personalized and most importantly pre-arranged aftercare discharge plan for each patient is established with community addiction treatment centers to provide the next step in ongoing care. Patients are then followed for one year to determine recovery success. BreakThru’s inpatient and outcome statistics surpass industry established benchmarks and that means service excellence.

BreakThru is a confidential and comfortable option for people who want to break the cycle of substance abuse. The care is based upon medical evidence and has been highly effective in helping people manage a safe and comfortable withdrawal, which is the first step of the recovery process. Madison Health is proud to provide the community with a service that treats every patient going through withdrawal with compassion and dignity, which in turn leads to better recovery outcomes.

Together, we can help solve this drug crisis in our backyard. If you or someone you know could benefit from our program please call us now.

For more information and access to BreakThru services, call 740-845-7140 and we will be happy to help start the recovery process.
