London royalty walked the halls of Madison Health Thursday morning.
Six members of the London Strawberry Festival court arrived, tiaras and all, to deliver care packages they crafted to the oncology unit.
Each year, the festival Queen picks a service project for members of court to complete.
“I’ve had past family members experience cancer and that made me want to help those patients,” said Whitney Stires, reigning queen.
Stires ran the idea by the rest of the court and the other girls loved the idea, Stires said.
The girls assembled the 45 packages last week. Each package contains items such as blankets, fuzzy socks, lotion, chapstick and activity books.
A box was set up during Olde Fashioned Christmas where community members could donate to the cause.
Different companies around London also donated items and a $100 financial contribution allowed the girls to purchase extra items and fill in gaps, according to Stires.
“I know for sure I want to do more to help out the community,” Stires said.
