Madison Health to begin major expansion and renovation project
June 3, 2016

Madison Health is planning to begin construction of a new 24,000 square foot addition to the front of the hospital in spring of 2017.

This two-story addition will house a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department on the first floor and will triple the amount of square feet dedicated to emergency care.  The new Emergency Department will provide a 12,000 square foot area to include private patient rooms that will increase patient comfort and allow for more space at the bedside. This will enable patients to discuss sensitive topics with enhanced privacy, increase the number of family members accompanying the patient, reduce the risk of cross contamination and optimize the use of portable medical equipment.  The efficient new layout will help further decrease wait times and will include a family friendly waiting area.

As a continued partner with The James Cancer Network, Madison Health will also add a new Cancer Center on the second floor.  The Cancer Center will include private space for 12 oncology stations. The new layout will offer patients a comfortable setting and will also provide them with direct and convenient access to the center. The remaining portion of the second floor will be dedicated to office space for medical specialists.  This will increase the opportunity for both OSU and Mount Carmel to expand current programs that will provide specialty care close to home.

In addition to these exciting new renovations, this project includes a significant expansion of the existing facility that will assist in creating the ideal patient experience.  For example, plans to connect the Park Avenue Medical Building to the main hospital will provide convenience for both patients and staff. The overall reallocation of space will offer an improved layout of the facility. Patients will now have private rooms before and after surgery.  There will be various upgrades and enhancements to inpatient rooms.  Finally, much needed infrastructure upgrades will be completed on the heating, cooling and mechanical systems. Originally built 54 years ago, the current structure has been updated, upgraded and improved many times over the past several decades. The time has come for an ambitious upgrade that will dramatically increase the space to allow for continued growth.

Madison Health is committed to providing excellent care close to home.  This five year, $25-27 million expansion project will add value to the community.  Madison Health is proud to bring the best in healthcare to each of you. Funding for this awesome new facility will include a $6 million “Building on Excellence” capital campaign which will be launched later this year.

In order to ensure an organized expansion of this size, Madison Health is proud to welcome Bob Waldeck as Vice President of Strategy and Construction Management.  Bob has an extensive background in hospital expansion projects, development and leadership.  His experience as an executive for The Quandel Group, Hplex Solutions, OhioHealth and Mount Carmel will lend itself to this type of project.  Bob officially joined the Madison Health team on May 31.
