“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” - Walt Disney

On Tuesday, April 12, a section in the waiting area at Madison Health Primary Care in the Park Avenue Medical Building became a special place for children to find such treasures.

Martha’s Corner was dedicated in remembrance of Dr. Martha Geib, a pediatrician at Madison Health and advocate for children.  Family members, friends and co-workers were present for the celebration.

“Martha had a small statue of Jesus on her desk with the verse from Matthew, ‘Let the children come to me,’” said Dr. Michelle Khoury, fellow physician at Madison Health Primary Care.  “This testament inspires us to be the same kind of physicians, warm and welcoming to our youth.”

Dr. Geib passed away suddenly in April 2015 and Martha’s Corner was created to honor and continue her efforts to promote early literacy.  Martha’s Corner consists of a reading nook filled with books for children to take home and share with siblings and friends.

“Although it has been more than a year since her passing, her memory is still fresh in our hearts,” said Kelly Snyder, family friend and Vice President of Development at Madison Health.  “As we thought about what would be an appropriate tribute, there were two themes that kept surfacing, her dedication to children and her support of education.  This space is designed to welcome children and invite them into the world of reading.”

The space, which also incorporates Dr. Geib’s adoration for all things Disney, was designed by friend, Melinda Elliott of Fine Designs and Interiors in London.

“I was honored to be asked to create this corner to honor Martha’s memory,” said Elliott.  I was very fond of Martha and enjoyed creating this fitting tribute to her; it was truly a very emotional and moving experience.”
