London Elementary once again makes change for breast cancer awareness
December 21, 2015
During the month of October, the students and staff at London Elementary School (LES) collected pennies as part of their Pink Out for breast cancer awareness. The campaign was spearheaded by second grade teacher Khara Cunningham, who encouraged everyone to bring in coins and show their support in the fight against the disease.
Thousands of pennies were
collected and counted and on Wednesday, December 16 a check for $1,000 was
presented for the Mona Flax Breast Cancer Endowment Fund at Madison Health. The money will be used to help area residents
receive breast care services at no out-of-pocket cost.
"Many of us have had a loved one or friend who has courageously battled cancer," said Khara Cunningham, second grade teacher at LES. "Students and staff at LES are no exception. We have had several past and present colleagues that have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We give to Madison Health’s Mona Flax Breast Cancer Endowment Fund because the funds remain in our community and directly impact the children and families we serve."
