The Madison Health Foundation's Bob Powers Classic celebrated its 26th anniversary in picturesque weather August 12 and 13 at the London Country Club. Each year this event raises thousands of dollars to improve healthcare services in Madison County.

This year, all proceeds from the golf outing supported the Mona Flax Breast Cancer Endowment Fund.  The Fund was renamed earlier this year in memory of its founder and helps area residents receive breast care services regardless of their ability to pay.  To date, the Fund has helped more than 160 women with breast care services ranging from treatment and physician bills to prosthetics and transportation.

Mona served as Director of the Foundation for 15 years and was a two-time breast cancer survivor.  She spearheaded efforts to raise money and awareness about breast cancer in Madison County and helped raise $2 million to bring the latest digital equipment to the Battelle Breast Care Center at Madison Health.

“Because of Mona’s efforts and events like the Bob Powers Golf Classic, we are able to continue our mission of providing quality healthcare in Madison County,” said Kelly Snyder, Executive Director of the Madison Health Foundation.

At this year’s two-day golf event, players competed in both individual and team competitions.

Wednesday’s 14 four-person golf teams competed in a shamble with awards for both the low gross team and the low net team. Congratulations to the winners!

Low Gross Team: Darrin Nance, Jim Murphy, Bryan Howard and Phil Wall

Low Net Team: Trent Carr, Pat Campbell, Ryan Parrish and Patrick Campbell

Thursday’s 12 six-person golf teams competed in a classic scramble. Congratulations to the winners!

First Place Team: Joe Reinhard, Sharon Reinhard, Matt Keyes, Mark Yerke, Scott Campbell and Conner Brown

Second Place Team: Tim Roby, Tom Russell, Mark Knisley, Scott Hingson, A.J. Kaltenbach and Jamie Kaltenbach

Golfers also competed individually for closest to the pin and longest putt on two specific holes. The winners in the men’s competition were Tim Roby for closest to the pin and Scott Hingson for longest putt. In the ladies' competition, Sharon Reinhard won closest to the pin and Chieko Arikawa won longest putt.

New to this year’s event was a family-friendly hog roast and it was enjoyed by employees and friends of Madison Health.  The event kicked-off after Thursday’s golf scramble and featured live music from local musician, Matt Rees.

Madison Health and the Foundation would like to thank all the sponsors, golfers and volunteers that made this year’s Bob Powers Classic a success.  The event was renamed in 2011 to honor its founder and co-chair.  Bob served on both the Hospital and Foundation Boards and he thrived at the event, combining his leadership skills and enthusiasm for the sport.

“I am overwhelmed by the continued support of the community and hope to see everyone out on the course next year on August 10 and 11,” said Snyder.  “We look forward another beautiful year on the green.”
