The Madison County Hospital Foundation's Bob Powers Classic celebrated its 25th anniversary August 13 and 14 at the London Country Club. Each year this event raises thousands of dollars to improve healthcare services in Madison County.

Funds from the golf outing will benefit the Foundation's campaign, "Caring for Today and Tomorrow." The $2 million campaign supports information technology initiatives, including the expansion of electronic health records; adds new equipment to radiology, surgery and laboratory; and expands endowment funds that assist under and uninsured patients.

“We are able to continue our mission of providing quality healthcare in Madison County because of events like the Bob Powers Golf Classic,” said Kelly Snyder, Executive Director of the MCH Foundation.

In honor of the 25th anniversary, Mike Lynch was selected by a committee of his peers to receive the first Honorary Chair designation in recognition of his support of MCH, his commitment to the MCH Foundation and his dedication to serve the community.  Lynch has supported the Bob Powers Golf Classic from the beginning, both as a player and sponsor and as Chairman of the Golf Classic Committee.

"People and places have come and gone over the years, but the most profound constant and anchor of our community has been MCH," said Lynch.  "I am privileged to serve on a committee full of dedication and devotion to the hospital for its profound impact in all of our lives."

At this year’s two-day golf event, players competed in both individual and team competitions.

Wednesday’s 14 four-person golf teams competed in a shamble with awards for both the low gross team and the low net team. Congratulations to the winners!

Low Gross Team: Darrin Nance, Jim Murphy, Phil Wall and Bryan Howard

Low Net Team: Joe Keith, Travis Fling, Don Herman and Drew Dwyer

Thursday’s 11 six-person golf teams competed in a classic scramble. Congratulations to the winners!

First Place Team: Tim Roby, Rick Pollard, Scott Hingson, Mark Knisley, Andrew Cottrell and Gus Miller

Second Place Team: Phil Wall, Jason Ferguson, Bryan Howard, David Fausnaugh, Vince Marchese and Darrin Nance

Golfers also competed individually for closest to the pin and longest putt on two specific holes. The winners in the men’s competition were Phil Wall for closest to the pin and Mark Knisley for longest putt. In the ladies' competition, Sharon Reinhard won both the closest to the pin and longest putt contests.

MCH and the Foundation would like to thank all the sponsors, golfers and volunteers that made this year’s Bob Powers Classic a success.  The event was renamed in 2011 to honor its founder and co-chair.  Bob served on both the Hospital and Foundation Boards and he thrived at the event, combining his leadership skills and enthusiasm for the sport.

“I am overwhelmed by the continued support of the community and hope to see everyone out on the course next year on August 12 and 13,” said Snyder.  “We look forward to the next 25 years of fun on the green.”
