Last week, Madison County Hospital announced several organizational changes including the closing of the SNRU (Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit), a nursing unit community members know as the Extended Care Unit.
The closing of this unit, which is slated for June 30th, does not in any way impact the hospital’s Rehabilitation department, which includes physical, occupational and speech therapies.
“We have heard that there may have been some confusion about our rehabilitation services,” Anita Zeigler, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Madison County Hospital, “We want to assure our patients and the community that rehab services, including Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy are still being offered at the hospital and we’re running business as usual.”
Zeigler believes the confusion is from the similar names of the units. “I think some of our community heard the SNRU was closing but thought that that also including our rehabilitation services, too. It does not.”
Outpatient rehabilitation services are available in the Park Avenue Medical Building on the campus of Madison County Hospital. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 740-845-7275.
To clarify another misconception, hospital spokesperson Jessica Ulbrich said that, “The MCH Home Health and Hospice program is also still accepting new patients. Although ownership of the program will transition to Universal Home Health and Hospice Care, Inc. as of May 1st, the change in ownership will be seamless for patients.”
“Patients and their families will continue to get the same outstanding level of care they have come to expect from the hospital’s program once Universal takes over,” according to current program director, Joanna Curl. “Most of the employees will be making the transition to the new company, so patients will hardly know the difference.”
Call 740-845-7550 for more information on the types of home care and hospice services available or if you have questions about the transition. The phone number will remain for Universal Home Health and Hospice Care services.
