Health Tip: Having Heart Palpitations
Strong emotions or medication are possible triggers

(HealthDay News) -- Heart palpitations may feel like a fluttering or skipping sensations, or the perception that the heart is beating too quickly.

The National Heart Lung and Blood Institute says possible causes of heart palpitations include:

  • Having strong emotions.
  • Engaging in rigorous physical activity.
  • Taking certain medications, such as decongestants or diet pills.
  • Drinking alcohol or caffeine, or consuming nicotine or illegal drugs.
  • Having certain medical conditions, such as anemia or thyroid disease.
