Health Tip: Reducing the Risk of Premature Delivery
Don't drink alcohol or smoke
-- Diana Kohnle

(HealthDay News) -- When babies are born prematurely, they're at risk for serious health and developmental problems. Premature delivery can't always be prevented, but there are things you can do to increase the odds of having a full-term baby.

The U.S. Centers for Disease and Prevention offers these tips:

  • Don't smoke during pregnancy.
  • Don't drink alcohol or use drugs.
  • From the time you first think you may be pregnant, seek prenatal care and get regular care throughout your pregnancy.
  • If you have any signs or symptoms of early labor, get medical help immediately.
